Peter Bialobrzeski, born in 1961, is one of the most successful contemporary German photographers. In 2012, he was honoured with the Dr. Erich Salomon-Award by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Photographie and in 2003 and 2010 with the renowned award for photojournalism, the WorldPressPhoto Award.

Bialobrzeski’s photographic work is like an expedition, documenting societal and social change. He observes not people but places, towns, metropolises, and urban spaces. Between 2011 and 2016 he worked on his series Die zweite Heimat (lit. The Second Home), photographing not only Berlin, Bottrop, Hamburg, Meißen, or Offenbach, but also the wide in-between, the strange but familiar, where garage-doors, streetlights and gas stations line up. Bialobrzeski calls it an “exploration of Germany’s social surface.”

His City Diaries are photographic survey of predominantly European and Asian metropolises. Minsk Diary looks at every-day life between tradition and reality in Belarus. Considering the tensions in Belarus and the authoritarian regime of Alexander Lukashenko, it's a hot topic.
Dhaka Diary documents the uninhibited growth of Asian mega-cities. It provides evidence that an irreversible change is happening in urban living space. The exhibition will be presenting portraits of Linz and Budapest, too, two cities at the banks of the river Danube. They are accompanied by works of the series The Raw and the Cooked, Informal Arrangements, Case Study Home and No Buddha in Suburbia.
