Stadthaus Ulm has invited contemporary photographers from Mongolia to give us a current view of their rapidly changing country. They will not only show us the still important horse races in their modern form or Buddhism, which is regaining strength after the brutal Soviet purge. They also look at coal mining, increasing desertification of grasslands, and urban youth. While traditional ways of life are threatened by climate change and environmental problems, urban life is characterized by societal change.
Nathalie Daoust, a Canadian photographer living in Berlin, explored the photography scene in Mongolia, which is largely unknown to us, and introduced it to the Stadthaus. The Stadthaus now wants to share the fascination for Mongolia and its photographers.
