Stadthaus Team Management

Karla Nieraad joined the Stadthaus since its opening in 1993, initially as head of organisation until she took over the overall management in 2005. The former dramaturge took her first professional steps at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe. At the Ulm Theater and the Nationaltheater Mannheim, her focus was on contemporary dance theater, which she also promotes in Ulm. Now at the Stadthaus, she also curates photography exhibitions such as "Images from North Korea" and the retrospective of Herlinde Koelbl (both in 2017 and, as it is often the case, in a team with Andrea Kreuzpointner or others), Andy Spyra's series "The Stolen Girls" about the victims of Boko Haram (2018), the highly acclaimed 2019 exhibition "Wig, Headscarf, Habit", Ann-Christine Woehrl's portraits of the so-called "'Witches' of Ghana" (2021), "Kudzu" by Sabine Bungert and Stefan Dolfen in 2022, and Katharina Eglau's photographs oft he Orient "Fragile Dreams" in 2024. Karla also edits the "edition stadthaus" series.

Christos Kalokerinos, affectionately known as ‘Kalle’, and not just at the Stadthaus, is your point of contact for hall rentals and organisation. He is also responsible for our exhibition and maintenance staff, the importance of which should not be underestimated (Stadthaus director’s note) and a task that is both demanding and satisfying. Kalle has been with the Stadthaus for almost 15 years, time and again proving his organisation skills as house and event technician. In addition, he is a member of the organising team of Kulturnacht and he used to be a restauranteur, such as at Salon Hansen, StrandGut and Flussmeisterei.

Carolyn Ammann is our specialist for all communication, public relations, and marketing. Her big advantage: She intuitively knows what makes Ulm tick, because Ulm is her hometown. And she has more aces up her sleeve: She studied cultural science in Berlin and London, and has been covering a variety of fields in important cultural institutions in the region since 2008, such as the Ulmer Zelt, the Opera Festival in Heidenheim, and at the Zehntstadel in Leipheim.
Well connected and always curious, the friendly and professional team player is enjoying her work at the Stadthaus since 2023. And the Stadthaus is enjoying her company!

She applied for a job as administrative assistant ("I'll do what needs do be done"), and stayed on as financial expert. Tinta - this is what she is called since childhood - came well-prepared, she completed an apprenticeship as a bank clerk and worked in a large bank for fifteen years.
Moreover, her calmness is the perfect counterweight to our lively team. Toughened through her daily life with three school-age kids, hardly anything throws her off balance. She is creative as well: advanced course in arts at grammar school, and ten years of running her own shop selling fabrics and offering sewing classes. She has written a children's book, and due to her family she got involved early in organising cultural events in her home town near Ulm. It is very reassuring, that she supervises our creative powers and keeps them under control financially.

She is torn between two things: Romanian stuffed cabbage, and Kässspätzle.
Born in Timişoara, she came to the land of her ancestors when she was three years old. She started doing crafts at a very young age, and as she grew older she wrote diaries, designed fashion, did photography, was a location scout for television, studied culture sciences, and used her talents as a communicator. Together with her sister and her mother she founded the fashion studio lajcc, she runs a small eatery in the city centre together with her boyfriend, she is publishing her own print magazine, Uhochdrei (U cubed; featuring creative people, young photography, and good stories), and she is a freelance social media and event manager. We can only assume that all of that is happening at the same time, somehow. That’s Andrada in a nutshell, who is always attentive, interested, and friendly, but who doesn’t talk about herself much. Andrea Kreuzpointner studied German philology in Munich. She worked for Süddeutsche Zeitung and Akademie des Deutschen Buchhandels, where she was responsible for events, marketing, sales, and sponsoring projects.
But her heart beats for cultural education programs to accompany our exhibitions. Occasionally, she curates herself (often with Karla Nieraad or Leonie Brunner). She developed the concept for our audio guide for kids by kids’(in cooperation with the media course at St. Hildegard-Schule), which is also available in Turkish as of late, our architectural guide "Von Schwimmbadleitern und fliegenden Teppichen" ('of pool ladders and flying carpets’), as well as the biannual photography competition "Demokratie auslösen!" (‘causing democracy!’) we are presenting with its own exhibition and catalogue. By the way: All projects are also very enjoyable for adults who would like to learn something from the younger generation. Since 2017, Andrea has also been organising the young readers book fair ‘Kibum’, which has, after many years at the Stadthaus, moved to the municipal library.

She was born in the city famous for the merchant family Fugger, grew up on a farm surrounded by nature and animals, and went to school in Neu-Ulm. And then: Carpenter. After that: Teacher for technology, PE and fine arts at a secondary school, freelance art educator at Badisches Landesmuseum in Karlsruhe (exhibition on Carthage) and BA in Art History. One of her subjects was multi-media. Further on: Employed by the SWR to establish the media library and as a photo editor for online news. Thereafter: Photo editor at Südwest Presse. Today: Getting qualified as a childcare-worker, employed by a kindergarten in Ulm. By the way: She is also a high ropes instructor.

Katrin Stern’s first appearance at the Stadthaus was in 2014, as a member of Amnesty International, as co-moderator for a conversation with a contemporary witness of the ‘comfort women’ system in the Pacific War. In 2024 she curated an exhibition in co-operation with Karla Nieraad about photojournalist Katharina Eglau: Egypt, Iraq, Sudan, gold miners, Sufis, women’s rights …

A carpenter by trade, a chief carpenter at the theatre, a master of event technology and an enthusiastic lighting operations manager – the Stadthaus greatly benefits from Paul Stauber’s experience. When Strado Compagnia Danza visits the Stadthaus, he is part of the ensemble as their lead lighting designer. Arranging an exhibition within Richard Meier’s architecture? Paul Stauber can do it blindfolded. He also supports organisers of guest events.

It is a great advantage for the Stadthaus that Franz is good at many things: He is an electrician, a beekeeper, and an experienced musician. Two bee colonies move to the Stadthaus terrace every year, cared for by Franz, producing the finest nectar for our popular Stadthaus honey. And as a drummer with ‘Jesus George’, he is well known beyond the Stadthaus.

The youngest member of our team of event managers and technicians is an old hand on the turntables and an active player of 15 years in the club scene in Ulm: Nico Bulla. After proving his worth as DJ, producer, and restaurateur in the collective of ‘Eins Tiefer’ and ‘St. Mauli’ in Germany’s capital, he returned to the south in 2020 to study ‘Innovative Music Technology’. His comfort zone is between synthesisers and turntables, and the visual arts are also his thing. When he saw there was a vacant position at the Stadthaus, there was no holding him back.

Now he is part of our team, and we are very happy to have him.

Born in 1987 in Karl-Marx-Stadt (today: Chemnitz) to German-Cuban parents, moved to Munderkingen with his family in 1994. There, as drummer in a marching band, Daniel Stiller discovered his love for music. His passion for the relevant technology was found during the unauthorised disassembly of his father’s record player. When he was a little older, he could legally explore into the world of sound, light and event technology in Ulm. First, as a member of the Subtone crew at Club Schilli, then as an intern at Roxy and finally as a trainee at Audio Express. Daniel’s life is all about music, be it Hip Hop, Electronica, or while playing the classical guitar. When he is not on the job at the Stadthaus, he runs a recording studio with a friend, publishes to his tech-blog, or freelances as stage builder, rigger, and lighting designer.
