Heike Sauer was born as the daughter of her parents and grew up in the vast expanse of Swabia. After receiving the university-entrance diploma, Sauer enrolled in the Iwanson International School of Contemporary Dance in Munich to become a dancer and dance pedagogue. When a busted knee ruined her career, she abandoned the silent years of dancing and started talking, dressed in pink and called herself Marlies Blume. And she talked the way she learned it, in Swabian. This has been going on for 20 years now. She collected numerous awards with Ariane Müller, performed with Martin Wangler (aka Fidelius Waldvogel) and last but not least with Hanna Münch as 'Münch & Sauer'.

The pink thread that ties it all together: black humour, social commentary and a hint of kitsch. Which brings us back to the exhibition. Sauer collects odds and ends to turn them into art. 'KunstKitsch' is how she lovingly calls her colourful works – or 'Gruschd-Upcycling'.

It all sounds very naïve and colourful, but beware: You'll find that the light humour may turn pitch black quite suddenly. Like in the toy shop full of weapons. Behind the colourful knick-knackery of her works there lurks biting satire and sometimes scathing cynicism.

Sauer picks her material right out of our lives, the things we have come to un-love, the rejected, discarded stuff. Arranged anew, she serves it to us in this exhibition, our life. The way it is: Sweet and sour.
