Bialobrzeski’s photographic work is like an expedition, documenting societal and social change. He observes not people but places, towns, metropolises, and urban spaces. Between 2011 and 2016 he worked on his series Die zweite Heimat (lit. The Second Home), photographing not only Berlin, Bottrop, Hamburg, Meißen, or Offenbach, but also the wide in-between, the strange but familiar, where garage-doors, streetlights and gas stations line up. Bialobrzeski calls it an “exploration of Germany’s social surface.”
